Old Texas Sausage Pie

  • 1 Lb. Original Monroe Sausage (Ground Sausage)
  • 1 T. butter
  • 1/3 c. chopped onion
  • 3/4 c. milk
  • 1 (3 oz.) package cream cheese
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 c. sharp cheddar cheese (shredded)
  • 1/2 t. Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 t. salt
  • 1/8 t. pepper
  • 1 9-inch deep-dish pie crust, partially baked and cooled

 

Preheat oven to 375°. Brown sausage and drain off the fat. Set sausage aside. Sauté onions in butter until tender. Add the milk and heat until steam rises, but do not boil the milk. Cut the cream cheese into small pieces, add it to the onion mixture, and remove the pan from the heat. In a large bowl, beat the eggs, and then add the cheddar cheese, the onion mixture, the Worcestershire, salt and pepper. Mix well and pour into piecrust. Top with cooked sausage and bake for 30 minutes, or until set.
